The companies began working on a European deal almost a year ago and announced the i-MiEV rebranding program in September.

Mitsubishi said that the final agreement calls for it to begin production of the vehicles for the French market in October and to supply almost 100,000 of the battery-electric cars over an undisclosed number of years.

The iMiEV, reconfigured as a left-hand drive car for the French market, will be sold there as the Peugeot iOn and the Citroen C-Zero.

Mitsubishi began selling the i-MiEV in Japan last year and plans to launch it in the U.S. and other markets in 2011.

The four-seat car, based on the gasoline-fueled Mitsubishi i city car, delivers about 80 miles of range from its 88-cell lithium-ion battery pack and offers a range-reducing top speed of 80 miles an hour.
